Catherine's Apartment
Lynn
Have you ever noticed that Catherine's fireplace changes character abruptly? It starts out this way:
5 Masques |
7 Nor Iron Bars a Cage |
9 Dark Spirit |
|
And then suddenly, somewhere between episodes 10 and 17, it's changed to this

19 Everything is Everything |
![]() 29 A Fair and Perfect Knight |
40 A Kingdom by the Sea |
The second one is much more in keeping with the rest of the room. I'm glad they changed it. And Catherine could have changed it herself...
But...
It's a little harder to figure out how she could have changed her bathroom from one side of the bedroom to the other. Here's a series of pictures of her moving from her living room around the corner of the bedroom to go into the bath.

9 Dark Spirit |
And here's a picture of the corner of her bedroom between the bed and the french doors. No bathroom door, OK?
10 A Children's Story
Woops! What happened?
15 Temptation |
18 Fever |
There are smaller changes, as well. The sofas:

9 Dark Spirit |
11 An Impossible Silence |
Another change for the better.
17 Down to a Sunless Sea |
18 Fever |
![]() 30 Labyrinths |
37 The Watcher |
Catherine's dining room table and chairs suffered the same strange metamorphosis as her sofas. Here are the pictures of her dining room up to episode 11
05 Masques |
06 The Beast Within |
07 Nor Iron Bars a Cage |
|
|
Then come episodes 12 Shades of Grey, 13 China Moon, 14 The Alchemist, which don't show her apartment at all. And then:
|
|
|
|
|
40 A Kingdom by the Sea |
44 The Rest is Silence |
(Note that the sofas changed at the same time.)
Again, a change for the better.
There are other changes that were made at
different times, not necessarily during the episodes 12 - 15 upheaval. The
wall lights on either side of the fireplace, the two torcheres that stood
beside the china cabinet on the back wall, and various ornaments, bouquets,
etc. One thing I wish they'd left alone is the bouquet beside the front
door. They replaced it with a pair of horns
that don't seem to fit with the decor
at all. But then it's gone again by episode 37.
Anyway,
It's that magic number, 11. Something happened right after episode 11, An Impossible Silence, that made them redecorate Catherine's apartment. I'm very curious to know what that could have been. Any ideas?
