Thursday, July 14, 2016: A Day at the Jersey Shore (10:00 am - 6:00 pm)
Forget about Snookie and J-Wow, experience what a New Jersey shore town is really like.  We will visit Point Pleasant Beach, NJ and you will find that it is aptly named! You will spend an extremely pleasant afternoon on the boardwalk: ride the rides, play games of chance, and try fabulous Boardwalk treats like funnel cake, soft serve ice cream and salt water taffy, just to name a few! There are also sit down restaurants in the area around the Boardwalk for a more formal lunch. If you want to actually go on the beach, day passes are $9.00.  If you want to visit the aquarium, admission is $12.00 ($7.00 for age 62 and up).  However, those things can be purchased that day. The cost of this trip is only the bus to get there.  Even if you just hang out on a bench with friends and enjoy the relaxing ocean views and delicious smell of salt air – you can’t go wrong down the shore.
Cost: $45.00

Sunday, July 17, 2016: Spirit Skyline Cruise (Board at 6:30 pm, cruise 7- 9:00 pm)
This is most definitely the cure for the end-of-con blues!  Come and dance the night away as we cruise around the island of Manhattan.  The price includes a buffet dinner, a DJ and dancing, and of course, the gorgeous views of the NYC skyline! Since we will board while it is still daylight, we will get to see a dazzling sunset that will gradually fade into the spectacular lights of the night skyline. We will also see sights along the way such as the Freedom Tower, Statue of Liberty and the iconic Brooklyn Bridge. The boat leaves from a dock that is only a 5-7 minute walk from our hotel. This will allow even more time to enjoy the waterfront views going and coming.
Cost:  $110

Monday, July 18, 2016 Central Park Tour and Bench Visit (9:00 am – 1:00 pm)
This will be only the second time in Fandom history that a large group of fans will visit our bench together. The last time was in 2008, so you don’t want to miss this opportunity. But first, we will gather in the park and be led on a private tour by The Central Park Conservancy.  The CPC is the non-profit organization that made dedicating a bench possible.  They work tirelessly to keep Central Park in pristine condition so it can be enjoyed by the multitude of visitors, like you, it receives each year.  Since our bench is located mid-Park at 79th Street, we will learn about places of interest in that general area.  Some highlights will be the Shakespeare Garden, Belvedere Castle, Delacorte Theater, Great Lawn, Turtle Pond, Obelisk (Cleopatra’s Needle), and possibly a small part of The Ramble. We will end up at the bench and have time to spend there taking pictures, doing readings, and enjoying each other’s company in this special spot that belongs to B&B fandom.
Cost $45

Monday (continued)
We could easily fill 2 weeks’ worth of add-ons with all of the possibilities that NYC offers. I thought the best solution would be to leave Monday afternoon free for you to choose what you want to see. The bus will return to the hotel at 1 pm but anyone who chooses will be able to stay in the city longer. You can use one of your 2 ferry passes (included with your registration) to return to the hotel any time you’d like. Some may want to remain in the park and visit the Carousel. This will, unfortunately, not be included in our tour because it is too far out of the way. If you want to see a Broadway show, this would be the time to get on the TKTS line for same day discounted tickets. This might be a good time to ride the 1 train through the City Hall Subway Station. Or maybe you just want to spend the afternoon shopping for fabulous souvenirs! More suggestions on how you might spend Monday afternoon will follow shortly.

Tuesday, July 19, 2016: The High Line/Chelsea Market and The Ride: 9:30 am to 6:00 pm
The High Line is an old elevated train track that has been transformed into one of the most unique parks you will ever experience. No offence to Central Park, as this is in a completely different category!  The Highline is like a boardwalk in the middle of the city. Instead of amazing views of the ocean, you will have amazing views of the city and streets below, with photo opportunities galore! You can walk the whole length of it, or just find a comfy spot and watch the people go by.

Chelsea Market is located near The High Line and shares a long history with it. A block long and a block wide, with over 35 vendors, this is a “neighborhood market with a global perspective.”  It occupies the building that once housed the National Biscuit Company’s factory. This area is known as the Meatpacking District. Native Americans once traded their game and crops on the banks of the Hudson River at this very location. The trains of the High Line served the wholesale butchers who owned the shops beneath the tracks and cooled their provisions with blocks of Hudson River ice. The historical significance and the stripped-down brick architecture of the building give it a truly unique character. I think you will especially enjoy the “broken pipe” fountain at the center of the market that spouts colorful water!

The Ride is a hybrid bus tour and show.  You will sit in rows facing the side windows of the bus so that all of New York City becomes the stage. As they take us through famous parts of the city, well planted actors will emerge from the crowd to perform specialized entertainment just for us.  In Times Square, experience a mock New Year’s Eve celebration. In Columbus Circle, the bus drives around the statue of Columbus while a beautiful ballerina performs a dance around the base. All the while, a team of tour guides on the bus are more like stand up comedians, narrating the whole trip. This is a unique, not to mention hilarious, experience that is right up our alley!
Cost: $95
