Some tips about making and posting wallpapers

Post by WFOL »

It helps if the wallpapers are sized for the intended screen - the aspect ratio is key to having all your design show up. Use a standard size for your graphics, rather than a mix. Post these to a site that facilitates downloading (some have size options), like Flickr, Picasa, or DeviantArt. Or check the forum for volunteer hosts with websites who will post them for you. Just be sure to contact them for details: size and format requirements and any deadline they might set.

For desktops and laptops, the most common screen resolutions are:

1366 x 768 (15” notebook) aspect ratio: 16/9
1920 x 1080 (23” desktop) aspect ratio: 16/9
1920 x 1200 (widescreen, 24”+ desktop) aspect ratio 16/10

For ipad and iphones, you need to make a square wallpaper! You can’t just resize the rectangular wallpaper you made. Instead, you’ll need to make it a second time, and make it square from the beginning, or else crop your original image to a square (which probably won’t look right!)

Here’s a size guide:
