City Tour with Lunch Cruise

This
three-hour tour will be led by a tour guide who will tell us all a
little bit about the sights and the history of Cleveland. We’ll learn
about the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum, the Great Lakes
Science Center, Downtown Cleveland, the Warehouse District’s
restaurants, West Side Market, Cleveland Clinic campus, University
Circle’s cultural gems, the Cultural Gardens and Rockefeller’s
Greenhouse. Also, there will be a special stop just for us
that
most tours don’t have – we’ll be going to the Soldiers’ and Sailors’
Monument in downtown Cleveland’s Public Square. The monument was built
more than 100 years ago and stands as a symbol to honor the men and
women who fought and helped the wounded of the Civil War. Thousands of
cars drive past the monument each day, but few know what lurks
underneath. Years after the war ended, the folks in charge of the local
leftover ammo & uniforms needed a place to store them in the
event
that they were needed for another war so underneath the museum area of
the inside of the monument, there is a series of tunnels and
caverns—almost like a maze—that were used for safe-keeping of the
wartime equipment. So not only will we have the chance to go into
tunnels under the city (why does that sound so familiar?) but we’ll get
to see stained glass windows there! You can preview photos of at http://www.soldiersandsailors.com/
Two-hour
luncheon cruise on the Nautica
Queen.
After
the city tour, we’ll transfer from our bus to our cruise ship. We’ll
enjoy a unique adventure in lakefront and river cruise dining aboard
the Nautica Queen. We’ll go under historic bridges and have a
breathtaking view of Downtown Cleveland's ever-changing
skyline.
This portion of the City Tour add-on includes a sumptuous buffet. The
menu will be: green salad, pasta salad & other side
salads;
potatoes, rice pilaf, and vegetables; chicken du jour, chef’s choice of
beef or ham, and chef’s catch of the day; rolls, butter, dessert,
coffee, tea, and iced tea.
Cost (based on a minimum of 40 passengers): $54.50/person

Monday,
July 15 - Rock
and Roll Hall of Fame & Museum
rockhall.com
No
trip to Cleveland would be complete without a trip to the Rock Hall!
Its mission is to educate visitors, fans and scholars from around the
world about the history and continuing significance of rock and roll
music. This world-class museum collects, preserves, exhibits and
interprets this art form through its library and archives as well as
its educational programs. No matter your musical tastes, I’m certain
you’ll find something you’ll love at the Rock Hall. From the early
roots of rock and roll in country/folk music to present day artists,
the Rock Hall has it all – costumes, sets, props, guitars, movies,
memorabilia, even a tour bus! We’ll spend the afternoon in this amazing
museum touring on our own so that everyone can explore the areas that
interest them the most. This add-on includes a box lunch that you’ll be
given on the bus on route to the Rock Hall – you’ll be able to choose
turkey breast on whole wheat, roast beef on Italian, or a veggie wrap,
with chips, cookie, and a bottle of water. This will both allow us to
avoid the rather overpriced fees at the Rock Hall cafeteria, and free
up more time to enjoy the displays.
Cost (based on a
minimum of 40
passengers):
$52.00/person

Tuesday,
July 16 - Stan Hywet
Hall and Gardens stanhywet.org
This
is my personal favorite of our add-ons, and I think you’ll love it,
too. Imagine the country estate that Elliot Burch would build
himself – if he had about 100 times more money!
Stan Hywet
Hall and Gardens ranks 7th on the list of the largest houses in
America. The estate and its gardens were built in the Tudor style
between 1912 and 1915 for Mr. F.A. Sieberling, founder of the Goodyear
Tire and Rubber Company. He named it Stan Hywet, which is Old English
for "stone quarry," to reflect the site’s earlier use and the most
prominent feature of the estate. (And we BatB fans love things made of
stone, right? Kanin could get right to work there!)
Stan Hywet
has whole rooms transported here from Tutor castles in England. It has
a Great Hall! Dozens of gardens, stone balconies, a lagoon, shaded
paths, an English garden, rose gardens, fountains, brooks, and a
tunnel! A small tunnel, but a really pretty tunnel! It’s gonna be a
great photo op! If you like Downton Abbey, you're going to love Stan
Hywet Hall.
Lunch will be on our own that day, at the
estate cafe, which is very reasonably priced, and located in the
estate’s old stables – the tables are in the horse stalls! It’s very
charming and pretty.
The docent-led tour is about 1.5
hours. The remainder of our time will be free for you to explore the
gardens, the gatehouse (which is the birthplace of Alcoholics
Anonymous) and the conservancy building on your own.
Cost
(based on a minimum of 40
passengers):
$45.00/person
